Voltarol (Diclofenac)
General information
Voltarol’s formula contains a superpotent ingredient – diclofenac potassium that belongs to the group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). NSAIDs are effective pain killers and used to reduce inflammation. Diclofenac is aimed to suppress pain and inflammation of musculoskeletal conditions that may involve different forms of arthritis, podagra, sprains, fractures, dislocations, tendon inflammations, painful stiffness in a shoulder joint (adhesive capsulitis). Symptoms of dysmenorrhea can also be treated by taking this medication. Chiefly Voltarol is suitable to reduce sudden pain attacks and inflammation.
Directions
Voltarol is taken orally with a glass of water. It is possible to take it with or without food. This medication is not cut, crushed or chewed while taking. Avoid taking it longer than it is prescribed. You need to consult your doctor regarding the appropriate dosage schedule. Do not give up taking the medication unless it is permitted by your doctor. There is a certain amount of time needed for the medication to help.
Precautions
To make sure you can safely take Voltarol notify your doctor or pharmacist in case you are hypersensitive to it, have other allergies, suffer from liver or kidney diseases, have hypertension or Parkinson’s disease, if you are pregnant or in a period of lactation. Avoid consuming alcohol or smoking as it may interact with Voltarol. Generally this drug can impair your alertness and reactions, so be careful while driving or with doing anything that requires you to be alert and attentive. Aged patients are more inclined to suffer from potential side effects while using this medication. If you take Voltarol habitually and longer than it is prescribed it can result in hearts diseases. Voltarol may also cause stomach and duodenum ulcers. It can suppress the excretion of sodium and lithium in your organism. Using lithium supplements must be agreed with your doctor only.
Contraindications
Voltarol is not taken by patients displaying the hypersensitivity to one of the components of this drug or in case patients have sodium sensitive hypertension.
Possible side effect
Severe side effects are not expected to happen. The most regular side effects involve sleep disorders (insomnia), xerostomia, excitability, acrimony, sedation, suppression of urine. Serious allergic reactions are not likely to occur. You have to consult your doctor or chemist health care provider for more information. If you suffer from side effects that are not stated in this list immediately notify your doctor.
Drug interactions
There is a must to consult a doctor or a pharmacist regarding the list of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use before taking this medicine. Voltarol is able to interact with medicines belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs containing salicylate (aspirin); medicines with anticoagulant properties used in the treatment or prevention of thrombosis (warfarin).
Missed dose
In case you have missed to take the prescribed dose of this drug, take it as soon as possible. If you are already supposed to take your next dose, do not take the dose you forgot and keep your ordinary dosage schedule. Avoid compensating a missed dose by taking an extra one.
Overdose
If you suspect you have taken a larger dose of this medicinal product you must immediately seek emergency medical help. The most regular symptoms of overdosing are: chest pain, sickness, palpitations, vertigo, syncope.
Storage
This medicine is stored at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light, heat, moisture. Avoid storing the drug in the bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
