O que é este medicamento?
SULFAMETOXAZOL; TRIMETOPRIMA ou SMX-TMP é a combinação de um antibiótico da classe das sulfonamidas e um segundo antibiótico, trimetoprima. É usado para tratar infecções bacterianas. Também é usado para prevenir infecções em pessoas que se encontram em risco. Não funciona com constipações, gripe, ou outras infecções virais.
O que devo dizer ao meu médico antes de tomar este medicamento?
Ele precisa de saber se tem alguma destas condições:
- anemia
- asma
- a ser tratado com anticonvulsionantes
- se bebe frequentemente bebidas que contenham álcool
- doença renal
- doença hepática
- baixo nível de ácido fólico ou glicose-6-fosfato desidrogenase
- má nutrição ou má absorção
- porfíria
- alergias graves
- problemas na tiróide
- uma reacção alérgica ou rara a sulfametoxazol, trimetoprima, medicamentos de sulfato, outros medicamentos, alimentos, corantes, ou conservantes
- se está grávida ou a tentar engravidar
- se está a amamentar
Como devo tomar este medicamento?
Tome este medicamento via oral com um copo de água. Tome o seu medicamento em intervalos regulares. Não tomar o medicamento mais vezes do que o prescrito. Tome o medicamento como lhe foi receitado mesmo que pense estar melhor. Não saltar doses ou acabar de tomar o medicamento antes do previsto.
Fale com o seu pediatra sobre o uso deste medicamento em crianças. Cuidados especiais podem ser necessários. Este medicamento pode ser usado em crianças de apenas 2 meses de idade.
Sobredosagem: Se pensa que poderá ter tomado uma dose superior ao prescrito contacte o Centro de Informação Antivenenos ou os Serviços de Urgência de imediato.
NOTA: Este medicamento é apenas para si. Não o partilhe com outros.
Que fazer se falhei uma toma?
Se se esquecer de uma dose, tome-a o mais rapidamente possível. Se for quase altura da sua próxima dose, use apenas essa. Não redobre ou tome doses extra.
O que pode interferir com este medicamento?
Não tome este medicamento com nenhum dos seguintes:
- potássio aminobenzoato
- dofetilida
- metronidazol
Este medicamento pode também interagir com os seguintes:
- Inibidores da ECA como benazepril, enalapril, lisinopril, e ramipril
- ciclosporina
- digoxina
- diuréticos
- indometacina
- medicamentos para diabetes
- metenamina
- metotrexato
- fenitoína
- suplementos de potássio
- pirimetamina
- sulfinpirazona
- antidepressivos tricíclicos
- varfarina
Esta lista pode não conter todas as interacções possíveis. Que cuidados devo ter enquanto tomar este medicamento?

Efeitos secundários que deve reportar ao seu médico de imediato:

- problemas respiratórios
- febre ou arrepios, dores de garganta
- batimento cardíaco irregular, dores no peito
- dores nos músculos ou articulações

- manchas vermelhas na pele
- bolhas ou pele a escamar, incluindo dentro da boca
- hemorragias ou nódoas negras fora do comum

Onde devo guardar o meu medicamento?
Mantenha-o fora do alcance das crianças.
