Se utiliza en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2 (no insulina dependiente ). Actúa estimulando la liberación de insulina natural de su cuerpo. Controlar el azúcar en la sangre ayuda a prevenir el daño renal, ceguera, problemas neurológicos, pérdida de extremidades y los problemas de función sexual. Un control adecuado de la diabetes también puede reducir el riesgo de un ataque al corazón o un derrame cerebral.
Instrucciones
Tome Glucotrol Xl exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Tome este medicamento por vía oral, generalmente una vez al día con el desayuno. La dosis inicial recomendada es de 5 mg una vez al día. La dosis puede aumentarse, si es necesario, para controlar el azúcar en la sangre (hasta 20 mg, administrados una vez al día). Glucotrol Xl se debe tomar a la misma hora cada día. Controle los niveles de glucosa en la sangre en forma regular.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Glucotrol Xl usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene enfermedad hepática, enfermedad renal, enfermedad tiroidea, ciertas condiciones hormonales, desequilibrio electrolítico (hiponatremia), problemas del estómago o intestino. Usted puede experimentar visión borrosa, mareos o somnolencia. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Limite el consume del alcohol mientras esté tomando este medicamento, ya que puede aumentar el riesgo de desarrollar hipoglucemia.
Contraindicaciones
No utilice Glucotrol Xl si usted es alérgico a la glipizida, o si usted está en un estado de cetoacidosis diabética. Dígale a su médico si está embarazada o amamantando.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Obtenga ayuda médica de emergencia si usted tiene náusea, vómito, pérdida del apetito, diarrea, estreñimiento, malestar estomacal, gases, dolor de cabeza, aumento de peso, dolor de garganta, orina oscura, cansancio inusual, debilidad mental o cambios de humor, hinchazón de las manos o pies, convulsiones, visión borrosa, mareos, temblores, aceleración del ritmo cardíaco, aumento de orina, respiración rápida, erupción cutánea, picor, hinchazón. Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: diuréticos, esteroides (prednisona), fenotiazinas (Compazine), isoniazida, medicamentos para tratar el asma, resfriados o alergias, pastillas de dieta, medicinas para convulsiones (Dilantin), píldoras anticonceptivas, medicamentos para la tiroides (synthroid), medicamentos anti-inflamatorios no esteroideos, aspirina, los medicamentos sulfa (Bactrim), inhibidores de la monoamino oxidasa, beta-bloqueantes (Tenormin), fluconazol, probenecida, anticoagulantes (warfarina). La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico sobre todos los medicamentos, de venta libre-, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que está tomando.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son visión borrosa, convulsiones, debilidad extrema, dolor de estómago, dificultad para hablar, temblores, sudoración, temblores, taquicardia, sudoración, pérdida del conocimiento.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 68-77 grados F (20-25 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
