Exelon appartient au groupe de médicaments appelés les inhibiteurs de l'acétylcholinestérase. Il est utilisé pour traiter la démence légère et modérée dûe à la maladie d'Alzheimer ou à la maladie de Parkinson. Bien que le médicament ne soit pas un remède pour ces maladies, il peut aider à traiter certains de ses symptômes. Son composant principal est la rivastigmine. Ce médicament agit en empêchant une enzyme spécifique de décomposer l'acétylcholine dans le cerveau.
Posologie
Prenez Exelon conformément aux prescriptions de votre médecin. La dose initiale pour le traitement de la maladie d'Alzheimer est de 1,5 mg deux fois par jour. Après deux semaines, votre médecin peut augmenter la dose de 3 mg deux fois par jour. La dose maximale du médicament est de 6 mg deux fois par jour. Exelon doit être pris avec le repas à la même heure chaque jour.
Précautions
Avant d'utiliser Exelon avertissez votre médecin si vous avez: une maladie du foie, des tremblements, l'asthme, les troubles du rythme cardiaque, l’hypertrophie de la prostate, l'épilepsie, des problèmes de miction, une perte d'appétit, des problèmes cardiaques. Ce médicament peut vous rendre somnolent ou étourdi. Ne conduisez pas de voiture, ou ne menez pas d’activité qui exige de la vigilance.
Contre-indications
Vous ne devez pas utiliser Exelon si vous êtes allergique à la rivastigmine. Avisez votre médecin si vous êtes enceinte ou allaitez.
Effets secondaires possibles
Les effets secondaires courants peuvent inclure: une perte d'appétit, des tremblements, des vomissements, des vertiges, des douleurs à l'estomac, une diarrhée, des nausées, l’insomnie, des gaz, une faiblesse, l’écoulement nasal ou le nez bouché, des éructations. Obtenez de l'aide médicale d'urgence si vous avez un de ces signes d'une réaction allergique: un gonflement de votre visage, des lèvres, de la langue, l’urticaire, des difficultés respiratoires, la peau pâle, des troubles de vision ou de la parole.
Interaction des médicaments
Avisez votre médecin si vous prenez: des médicaments utilisés pour traiter la maladie de Parkinson (lévodopa, le pergolide, le ropinirole), le glycopyrrolate, l'atropine, le dimenhydrinate, les anti-inflammatoires non-stéroïdiens (ibuprofène, célécoxib, diclofénac), des relaxants musculaires, la propanthéline, l’hyoscyamine, des bronchodilatateurs (tiotropium, ipratroprium).
Omission de dose
Prenez la dose oubliée dès que possible. Sautez-la s'il est temps pour votre prochaine dose. Ne prenez pas de doses supplémentaires pour compenser la dose oubliée.
Overdose
Si vous pensez que vous avez une surdose du médicament, cherchez de l’aide médicale d'urgence immédiatement. Les symptômes de surdose sont des hallucinations, des nausées, le ralentissement des battements cardiaques, la diarrhée, une faiblesse musculaire, la respiration superficielle, des vomissements, une hypotension, la transpiration.
Conservation
Conservez le médicament à la température ambiante entre 68-77 degrés F (20-25 degrés C) à l’abri de la lumière et de l'humidité.
