Información general
Eskalith se usa para el tratamiento de trastorno maníaco-depresivo (trastorno bipolar). Trabaja para estabilizar el estado de ánimo y reduce los comportamientos extremos de restablecer el equilibrio de ciertas sustancias naturales (neurotransmisores) en el cerebro. Eskalith no es una cura para el trastorno bipolar. Sólo ayuda a controlar los síntomas.
Instrucciones
Tome Eskalith exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Tome este medicamento por vía oral, generalmente 3 a 4 veces al día. Tome el litio con o inmediatamente después de las comidas para reducir el malestar estomacal. Beba de 8 a 12 vasos de agua u otros líquidos cada día, y mantenga a una dieta sana con cantidades normales de sal (sodio). Tómelo a la misma hora todos los días. La dosis inicial recomendada es de 600 mg tres veces al día.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Eskalith usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene enfermedad cardíaca, enfermedad renal, la tiroides (hipotiroidismo), trastornos de la piel (psoriasis), enfermedad de Parkinson, la leucemia, si usted está deshidratado o tiene niveles bajos de sodio en la sangre (hiponatremia ), si usted es alérgico al litio. Tomar mucho líquido puede ser tan peligroso como no beber suficiente. Este medicamento puede causar mareos o somnolencia. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Limite el consumo de las bebidas alcohólicas. Los adultos mayores pueden ser más sensibles a los efectos secundarios de este medicamento.
Contraindicaciones
Usted no debe usar Eskalith si usted está embarazada o amamantando. No se recomienda en niños menores de 12 años de edad.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Obtenga ayuda médica de emergencia si usted tiene somnolencia, cansancio, aumento de sed, aumento de la frecuencia de la micción, aumento de peso y temblores, diarrea, vómitos, fiebre, mareos, marcha inestable, confusión, dificultad para hablar, visión borrosa, desmayos, cambios de vista, irregular latidos del corazón, dolor en las articulaciones, erupción cutánea, picor, hinchazón de la cara, lengua, garganta, dificultad para respirar. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, consulte a su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: acetazolamida, inhibidores de la ECA (captopril, enalapril, lisinopril), bloqueadores de los receptores de la angiotensina (losartán, valsartán), mayor productora de laxantes (psyllium), calcitonina, antagonistas del calcio (verapamilo, diltiazem , nifedipina), fármacos desmopresina, otros trastornos mentales o del estado de ánimo (clorpromazina, haloperidol, tiotixeno), metildopa, metronidazol, fármacos anti-inflamatorios no esteroideos (celecoxib, ibuprofeno, indometacina, el naproxeno, piroxicam), anticonvulsivos (carbamazepina, fenitoína ), los antidepresivos ISRS (fluoxetina, fluvoxamina, paroxetina), teofilina, antidepresivos tricíclicos (amitriptilina), diuréticos (hidroclorotiazida, furosemida). La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico sobre todos los medicamentos, de venta libre, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que está tomando.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son: diarrea, vómitos, zumbido en los oídos, visión borrosa, dificultad para caminar, somnolencia inusual, convulsiones, temblores, pérdida del conocimiento.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 59-77 grados F (15-25 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
