Geodon se utiliza para tratar la esquizofrenia y los síntomas de manía del trastorno bipolar (maniaco depresivo) en adultos y niños mayores de 10 años de edad. Se puede mejorar los síntomas de la esquizofrenia, tales como: alucinaciones, delirios y pensamiento desorganizado.
Instrucciones
Tome Geodon exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Por lo general se toma dos veces al día con alimentos. Sólo su médico puede determinar la dosis correcta para usted. La dosis diaria inicial para adultos es de 40 mg dos veces al día con los alimentos. La dosis puede incrementarse a 60 mg o 80 mg dos veces al día.
Precauciones
Geodon no se usa en condiciones psicóticas relacionadas a la demencia.Geodon puede causar fallo cardiaco, muerte súbita, o pulmonía en los adultos mayores con condiciones relacionadas a demencia. Evite beber alcohol mientras esté tomando Geodon.
Contraindicaciones
Dígale a su médico si está embarazada o planea quedar embarazada durante el tratamiento. No utilice Geodon si usted tiene un infarto agudo de miocardio, insuficiencia cardiaca, la diabetes, la hipersensibilidad al producto, si usted toma los antibióticos, medicamentos contra la malaria, los medicamentos para el tratamiento de trastornos psiquiátricos, medicamentos narcóticos (metadona).
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Los efectos secundarios más comunes son diarrea, mareos, vómitos, debilidad, dolor de cabeza, tos, flujo nasal, pérdida de apetito, náuseas, malestar estomacal. Busque atención médica de inmediato si alguno de estos efectos secundarios: reacciones alérgicas, disminución de los cambios de la capacidad sexual, estado de ánimo o mental, cambios en la visión, la erección prolongada o dolorosa, fiebre. Llame a su médico por asesoramiento médico sobre los efectos secundarios.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
No tome Geodon en combinación con Quinidex (quinidina), Orap (pimozide), Betapace (sotalol), Mellaril (tioridazina), Avelox (moxifloxacino) o Zagam (esparfloxacino). Eritromicina, fluoxetina, itraconazol puede causar un aumento en los niveles de ziprasidona o efectos cardiacos. No empiece una nueva medicina sin antes decirle a su médico.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son somnolencia, mareos, desmayos, latido cardiaco rápido, ansiedad.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 59-86 grados F (15-30 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
