Información general
Sustiva pertenece a una clase de medicamentos conocidos como inhibidores no nucleósidos de la transcriptasa inversa. Se utiliza con una combinación de otros fármacos anti-VIH para tratar la infección causada por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH). El VIH es el virus responsable del síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida (SIDA). Ayuda a disminuir la cantidad de VIH en su cuerpo para que su sistema inmunológico pueda funcionar mejor. También reduce el riesgo de presentar complicaciones por la enfermedad del VIH. Sustiva no es una cura para la infección por el VIH y no impide la propagación del VIH a otros por contacto sexual o contaminación sanguínea. También se puede utilizarla con otros medicamentos para prevenir la infección por el VIH después de tener contacto con el virus.
Instrucciones
Tomar Sustiva exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. La dosis recomendada para el tratamiento del VIH o el SIDA en adultos y niños es de 600 mg una vez al día, preferiblemente antes de acostarse se toma en combinación con otros medicamentos anti-VIH (antirretrovirales) las drogas. Los comprimidos deben tragarse enteras con un vaso lleno de agua. La dosis diaria es mejor tomarla antes de acostarse para reducir los problemas relacionados con posibles efectos secundarios del sistema nervioso. Este medicamento debe tomarse con el estómago vacío (2 horas después de una comida). Tomar SUSTIVA con los alimentos aumenta el nivel sanguíneo de este medicamento, que puede aumentar el riesgo de ciertos efectos secundarios.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Sustiva usted debe hablar con su médico si usted sufre de convulsiones, epilepsia, colesterol alto, triglicéridos, enfermedad del hígado, insuficiencia hepática, cirrosis, hepatitis, alergias. Este medicamento puede causar mareos, somnolencia o dificultad para concentrarse. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Evite el consumo de las bebidas alcohólicas. El alcohol puede aumentar algunos de los efectos secundarios. Evite tener relaciones sexuales sin protección o compartir agujas, cuchillas de afeitar o cepillos de dientes. De tomar este medicamento no evitará que le pase el VIH a otras personas.
Contraindicaciones
Usted no debe tomar Sustiva si usted es alérgico a éste o cualquier otro ingrediente del medicamento, está embarazada o amamantando.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Obtenga ayuda médica de emergencia si usted tiene fiebre, dolor de garganta, dolor de cabeza, sarpullido con piel roja, náuseas, dolor de estómago, pérdida del apetito, orina oscura, ictericia (coloración amarillenta de la piel o los ojos), fiebre, escalofríos, dolor del cuerpo, síntomas de gripe mareos, dificultad para dormir, somnolencia, sueños anormales, dolor muscular o articular, dificultad para concentrarse, alucinaciones, nerviosismo, náuseas, vómitos, dolor de estómago, diarrea, estreñimiento, hinchazón de la cara, lengua, garganta, dificultad para respirar, descamación de la piel, picazón. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, consulte a su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: medicamentos para el VIH (nevirapina, ritonavir, indinavir, atazanavir), medicamentos anticonvulsivos (carbamazepina, fenitoína), el corazón o la presión arterial (nicardipina, verapamilo, nifedipino, amlodipino), antibióticos (rifampicina , claritromicina, rifabutina), anticoagulantes (warfarina), voriconazol, sirolimus, tacrolimus, medicamentos antifúngicos (fluconazol, ketoconazol, itraconazol), ciclosporina, las benzodiacepinas (clobazam, triazolam lorazepam, midazolam), los medicamentos del cornezuelo del centeno (ergotamina, dihidroergotamina, bromocriptina) , los anticonceptivos hormonales, medicamentos narcóticos (metadona, levometadilo). La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis

Almacenaje
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 68-77 grados F (20-25 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
