Ce médicament d'ordonnance peut empêcher la goutte, des taux élevés d'acide urique dûs au traitement du cancer et les calculs rénaux chez les personnes qui ont des taux élevés d'acide urique. L'allopurinol peut aider à réduire les effets de l'angine de poitrine dûs aux maladies coronariennes en diminuant la charge sur le cœur.
Posologie
Utilisez ce médicament conformément aux prescriptions de votre médecin. L'allopurinol est habituellement pris une ou plusieurs fois par jour, selon la dose. Prenez-le juste après le repas. Il est recommandé de commencer le traitement de la goutte par une faible dose - de 100 mg une fois par jour. Après cela, votre médecin peut augmenter votre dose de 100 mg par jour chaque semaine et arriver à la dose maximale de 800 mg par jour. Des doses de 300 mg ou moins peuvent être prises en une dose quotidienne unique, tandis que la dose quotidienne plus élevée devrait être répartie en quelques prises plus petites. La dose recommandée pour prévenir les calculs rénaux d'oxalate de calcium est de 200 mg ou 300 mg par jour, prise en une dose unique. Ne prenez jamais plus que la dose prescrite.
Précautions
Avant de prendre l'allopurinol, veuillez aviser votre médecin si vous souffrez de l'insuffisance hépatique, d’une cirrhose ou de l'hépatite, de l’insuffisance rénale, des allergies aux aliments, aux colorants ou aux conservateurs, si vous êtes enceinte ou envisagez de devenir enceinte et si vous allaitez. Vous devez arrêter de prendre l'allopurinol immédiatement et contacter votre médecin si vous avez une éruption cutanée. Parfois, une éruption est le premier signe de la réaction dangereuse à l'allopurinol telle que le syndrome de Stevens-Johnson, des dommages au foie ou même de la mort. Allopurinol peut provoquer la somnolence. Donc, évitez de conduire un véhicule. Il est important de boire beaucoup de liquide, afin d'aider à empêcher aux calculs rénaux de se former.
Contre-indications
Vous ne devez pas utiliser l'allopurinol si vous avez une hypersensibilité au médicament, une insuffisance rénale, une insuffisance hépatique, une attaque de goutte aiguë. Il n'est pas recommandé aux enfants de moins de 14 ans.
Effets secondaires possibles
Demandez de l'aide médicale d'urgence si l’un de ces effets secondaires se manifeste: des éruptions cutanées, une perte de poids, une perte d'appétit, des démangeaisons, une miction douloureuse, du sang dans les urines, le gonflement des lèvres ou de la bouche, des difficultés respiratoires, une diarrhée, des nausées, des vomissements. Interaction des médicaments
L'allopurinol peut potentiellement interagir avec: les inhibiteurs de l'ECA (quinapril, énalapril, le ramipril), l'ampicilline, les antiacides, le cyclophosphamide, les diurétiques (acide étacrynique, furosémide, Chlorothiazide), la warfarine.
Omission de dose
Prenez la dose oubliée dès que possible. Sautez-la s'il est temps pour votre prochaine dose. Ne prenez pas de doses supplémentaires pour compenser la dose oubliée.
Surdosage
Aucun symptôme de surdosage n’est connu. Si vous pensez que vous avez une surdose du médicament cherchez de l’aide médicale d'urgence immédiatement.
Conservation
Conservez le médicament à température ambiante 77 degrés F (25 degrés C). Conservez tous les médicaments hors de portée des enfants et des animaux domestiques.
