Información general
Diltiazem pertenece a una familia de medicamentos conocidos como bloqueadores de los canales de calcio. Funciona al relajar los vasos sanguíneos y reduciendo la carga de trabajo del corazón. Este medicamento se usa para tratar la presión arterial alta (hipertensión) y la angina de pecho (dolor en el pecho). Diltiazem puede usarse también para controlar su ritmo cardíaco si usted tiene un latido del corazón rápido o irregular (como fibrilación auricular).
Instrucciones
Tome diltiazem exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Para tratar la presión arterial alta (hipertensión) o dolor de pecho (angina), la dosis recomendada puede variar de 30 mg a 360 mg al día. La dosis de forma de una tableta se toma generalmente 3 o 4 veces al día. Tómela con un vaso lleno de agua. Diltiazem debe tomarse con regularidad para obtener el mayor beneficio.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar diltiazem usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene enfermedad del corazón, insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva, ritmo cardíaco irregular (arritmia), síndrome del seno enfermo, enfermedad del hígado, insuficiencia hepática, cirrosis, enfermedad renal, presión arterial baja, algún tipo de alergia. Este medicamento puede causar mareos. No conducir o realizar tareas que requieran estar alerta. Limite las bebidas alcohólicas. Evite comer toronja o beber jugo de toronja mientras toma este medicamento.
Contraindicaciones
No tome diltiazem si usted es alérgico a éste o a cualquier otro ingrediente del medicamento, si está embarazada o amamantando o si usted tiene ciertos tipos de problemas del ritmo cardíaco en ausencia de un marcapasos, presión arterial muy baja, insuficiencia ventricular izquierda.
Posibles efectos secundarios
Busque atención médica de emergencia si usted tiene desmayos, latidos cardíacos rápidos o lentos, sensación de mareo, fiebre, dolor de garganta, dolor de cabeza, erupciones en la piel de color rojo, descamación, hinchazón, ganancia rápida de peso, náuseas, dolor de estómago, fiebre baja, perdida del apetito, orina oscura , ictericia (coloración amarillenta de la piel o los ojos), urticaria, dificultad para respirar, hinchazón de la cara, labios, lengua, nariz tapada, picazón, mareos, sensación de cansancio, calor, enrojecimiento. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, póngase en contacto con su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: ciclosporina, benzodiazepinas (flurazepam, midazolam, triazolam, alprazolam, lorazepam), betabloqueantes (betaxolol, propranolol, metoprolol), cimetidina, buspirona, carbamazepina, rifampicina, la clonidina, digoxina, quinidina, las estatinas (lovastatina, atorvastatina, simvastatina). La interacción entre dos medicaciones no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico sobre todos los medicamentos, sin receta médica, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que esté tomando.
Dosis omitida
Tome la dosis que olvidó tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que ha tomado mucho de la medicina busque ayuda médica de emergencia a la vez. Los síntomas de sobredosis son presión arterial extremadamente baja (hipotensión), insuficiencia cardíaca, ritmo cardíaco lento (bradicardia), sensación de desmayo, mareos, desmayos, dificultad para respirar.
Almacenaje
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 68-77 grados F (20-25 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
