Antabuse (Disulfiram)
Información general
Antabuse se prescribe para tratar el alcoholismo crónico. Su ingrediente activo disulfiram bis funciona bloqueando deshidrogenasa alcohólica. Instrucciones
Se recomienda tomar el medicamento como se lo indique su médico. Tómelo por vía oral por lo menos 12 horas después de haber bebido alcohol. Tómelo con un vaso grande de agua. Evite tomar alcohol en cualquier forma.
Precauciones
Antes de comenzar su tratamiento con Antabuse discuta con su médico acerca de todas las condiciones que pueda tener, especialmente acerca de: problemas cardíacos, úlceras estomacales o duodenales, trastornos de la circulación cerebral y la psicosis en la historia de disulfiram. Las personas de edad mediana pueden ser más sensibles al medicamento.
Contraindicaciones
Los pacientes con las siguientes condiciones no pueden usar el medicamento: asma bronquial, enfisema, tuberculosis pulmonar, enfermedades graves del sistema cardiovascular, neuritis del nervio auditivo, el glaucoma, neuritis óptica, insuficiencia hepática grave, diabetes, hipertiroidismo, enfermedad mental, agudaúlcera péptica, las enfermedades de los riñones, tumores malignos, polineuritis, las mujeres embarazadas y en lactancia, y los que tienen reacción alérgica a la medicación.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Los efectos secundarios más comunes son: inquietud, dolor de cabeza, somnolencia, erupción cutánea, acné, cambios en la visión, sabor a ajo. Las reacciones adversas más raras pueden ocurrir graves: hormigueo en manos o pies, fatiga, debilidad, dolores fuertes de estómago, pérdida del apetito, náuseas, vómitos, orina oscura, coloración amarillenta de los ojos o la piel. Si usted tiene efectos secundarios graves, que llegan a ser molestos y se empeoran, notifique a su médico y busque atención médica inmediata.
Interacción con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted esté usando, especialmente acerca de: los inhibidores de la MAO como fenelzina (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), antidepresivos tricíclicos como la imipramina (Tofranil), amitriptilina (Elavil), doxepina ( Sinequan), nortriptilina (Pamelor), isoniazida (Nydrazid), fenitoína (Dilantin), warfarina (Coumadin), metronidazol (Flagyl), teofilina (Theo-Dur), benzodiazepinas como el diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax), clorazepato ( Tranxene), temazepam (Restoril), clordiazepóxido (Librium), triazolam (Halcion), litio (Lithobid, Eskalith, otros).
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. Si es casi la hora de la nueva ingesta, omítala y vuelva a su horario.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son la pérdida de coordinación, náuseas, vómitos, mareos, entumecimiento y hormigueo, y convulsiones.
Almacenamiento
Almacene a temperatura ambiente de 59-86 F (15-30 C) lejos de la humedad y la luz solar. Mantenga alejado de la humedad (el baño).
