Información general
Azulfidine pertenece a un grupo de medicamentos llamados aminosalicilatos. Este medicamento actúa reduciendo la irritación y la inflamación en el intestino grueso. Se utiliza para tratar ciertos tipos de enfermedad intestinal conocida como colitis ulcerosa. Este medicamento no cura esta enfermedad, sino que ayuda a disminuir los síntomas, como fiebre, sangrado dolor de estómago, diarrea y rectal. También se utiliza para tratar la artritis reumatoide en niños y adultos. El tratamiento temprano de la artritis reumatoide con sulfasalazina ayuda a reducir o prevenir más daños en las articulaciones. Este medicamento también puede usarse para tratar otro tipo de enfermedad intestinal conocida como enfermedad de Crohn.
Instrucciones
Tome Azulfidine exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Tome este medicamento por vía oral después de las comidas con un vaso lleno de agua. La dosis inicial recomendada de leve a moderadamente activa de los casos de colitis ulcerosa en adultos es de 3000 a 4000 mg en total por día (dividida en pequeñas dosis tomadas cada ocho horas o más a menudo). Para niños de 6 años en adelante, la dosis recomendada es de 40 a 60 mg por kg de peso total al día, dividida en tres a seis dosis más pequeñas al día. Para la remisión de colitis ulcerosa su médico puede disminuir la dosis de 2000 mg al día (dividido en varias dosis más pequeñas) para los adultos y de 30 mg por kg en total al día para los niños.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Azulfidine usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene dificultad para orinar, obstrucción intestinal, porfiria (problemas con ciertas enzimas en el cuerpo), enfermedad renal, insuficiencia renal, enfermedad hepática, insuficiencia hepática, cirrosis, anemia o cualquier otra baja en la sangre recuento de células, el asma, las alergias. Este medicamento puede causar mareos. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Limite el consumo de las bebidas alcohólicas. Evite la exposición prolongada al sol, las cabinas de bronceado y las lámparas solares.
Contraindicaciones
Usted no debe tomar Azulfidine si usted es alérgico a ésta, la sulfasalazina, o cualquier otro ingrediente inactivo de la droga, o si tiene una obstrucción intestinal o urinario (bloqueo), porfiria. Informe a su médico si está embarazada o amamantando.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Atención médica de emergencia si tiene malestar estomacal, náuseas, vómitos, pérdida del apetito, llagas en la boca, dolor de cabeza, mareos, cansancio inusual, dificultad para respirar, hinchazón de la cara, labios, lengua, urticaria, fiebre fácil aparición de moretones, dolor de garganta, orina oscura, ictericia (coloración amarillenta de la piel o los ojos), orina menos de lo habitual, problemas para dormir (insomnio), picazón. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, consulte a su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: digoxina, ácido fólico, suplementos vitamínicos o minerales que contienen ácido fólico, la warfarina. La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico sobre todos los medicamentos, de venta libre, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que está tomando.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son náuseas, vómitos, dolor abdominal, somnolencia, convulsiones.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 59-86 grados F (15-30 grados centígrados), lejos del calor, la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
