O MEBENDAZOL é um anti-helmíntico. Este medicamento destina-se a tratar infecções de parasitas (vermes) nematóides, ancilóstomos, vermes intestinais, vermes de fita (tricurídeos) ou infestações por dois ou mais destes vermes.
O que devo dizer ao meu médico antes de tomar este medicamento?
Ele precisa saber se tem alguma das seguintes condições:
- Doença de Crohn
- doença inflamatória dos intestinos
- doenças hepáticas
- colite ulcerativa
- reacção alérgica ou anormal ao mebendazol, outros medicamentos, alimentos, corantes ou conservantes
- se está grávida ou a tentar engravidar
- se está a amamentar
Como devo tomar este medicamento?
Tome os comprimidos de mebendazol por via oral. O Mebendazol funciona melhor se tomado acompanhado com alimentos, especialmente alimentos gordos como leite gordo, queijo ou gelado. Pode mastigar os comprimidos, engoli-los inteiros ou esmagá-los e misturá-los com comida (como gelado ou pudim), que é uma forma fácil de administrar os comprimidos a crianças. Não tome este medicamento mais vezes que as indicadas. Mesmo que se sinta melhor, termine o tratamento de acordo com as indicações do seu médico. Procure espaçar as doses de forma equilibrada ao longo de todo o dia e noite e tome o seu medicamento regularmente às mesmas horas, todos os dias. A morte dos parasitas (vermes) pode ser lenta. Remover todos os parasitas (vermes) dos intestinos pode demorar vários dias.
Consulte um pediatra relativamente à utilização deste medicamento em crianças. Poderão ser necessárias precauções especiais.
Sobredosagem: Se pensa que poderá ter tomado uma dose superior ao prescrito contacte o Centro de Informação Antivenenos ou os Serviços de Urgência de imediato.
NOTA: Este medicamento é apenas para si. Não o partilhe com outros.
Que fazer se falhei uma toma?
Se falhar uma toma, tome-a assim que puder. Se está quase na altura de tomar outra dose, tome apenas essa dose. Nunca tome duas doses deste medicamento. Deve deixar um intervalo de tempo considerável entre cada toma. Se estiver a tomar uma dose diária e tiver que tomar uma dose de que se esquecera, assegure-se que deixa um intervalo de 10 a 12 horas entre doses. Se estiver a tomar duas doses diárias e se esqueceu de tomar uma dose, assegure-se que há um intervalo de 5 a 6 horas entre doses.
O que pode interferir com este medicamento?
- carbamazepina
- fenitoína
Esta lista pode não incluir todas as possíveis interacções. Informe o seu médico sobre os medicamentos que esteja a tomar, incluindo medicamentos sem necessidade de prescrição médica, suplementos alimentares, produtos naturais ou dietéticos. Informe também o seu médico sobre o eventual consumo de bebidas com cafeína ou álcool, se fuma ou toma drogas ilegais. Alguns destes poderão alterar os efeitos deste medicamento.
Que cuidados devo ter enquanto tomar este medicamento?
Visite o seu médico regularmente para confirmar que a sua infecção desapareceu. Se ainda estiver infestado ao fim de 3 semanas de tratamento, poderá necessitar de uma segunda série de comprimidos.
Se está infestado por parasitas ancilóstomos ou tricurídeos, poderá estar anémico. Consulte o seu médico para saber se necessita de suplementos de ferro.
Se está infestado com nemátodos, outras pessoas na sua casa poderão também necessitar de tratamento. Os nemátodos espalham-se com facilidade por contacto.
Lave bem as mãos, esfregue as unhas e tome duches frequentes. Mude e lave diariamente a roupa de cama, roupa e roupa interior. Isto contribuirá para evitar que os seus familiares sejam infectados. Desinfecte a casa de banho diariamente e lave frequentemente o chão com panos húmidos para reduzir o número de ovos dos vermes.
Que efeitos secundários posso notar com a toma deste medicamento?
Efeitos secundários que deve reportar ao seu médico de imediato:
- febre, arrepios, dores de garganta
- reacções alérgicas como pruridos ou urticária
- cansaço ou fraqueza anormais
Efeitos secundários que normalmente não requerem atenção médica (em caso de persistência ou incómodo, consulte o seu médico):
- diarreia
- tonturas
- dores de cabeça
- náuseas, vómitos
- alterações de audição (campainhas nos ouvidos)
- dores de estômago, o que pode ocorrer quando o número de vermes infestantes é muito grande
Esta lista pode não descrever todos os efeitos secundários.
Onde posso guardar o meu medicamento?
Mantenha-o fora do alcance de crianças numa embalagem que não consigam abrir.
Guarde este medicamento em local seco, sem luz e à temperatura ambiente entre 15 e 30 graus C (59 e 86 graus F). Deite fora medicamentos não utilizados após expirar o prazo de validade.
