Información general

Se utiliza para tratar ciertos trastornos mentales o del estado de ánimo (por ejemplo, esquizofrenia). Este medicamento no es una cura para la esquizofrenia, que sólo ayuda a controlar los síntomas. Este medicamento le ayuda a pensar más claramente y se siente menos nervioso. También puede ayudar a disminuir las alucinaciones (como oír o ver cosas que no existen).
Instrucciones
Tome Loxitane exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Tome este medicamento por vía oral, generalmente 2 a 4 veces al día con o sin comida. La dosis inicial recomendada para el tratamiento de la esquizofrenia es de 10 mg dos veces al día (o un máximo de 25 mg dos veces al día para la esquizofrenia severa). Su médico puede aumentar la dosis hasta un total de 250 mg por día si es necesario. Tómelo a la misma hora cada día.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Loxitane usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene epilepsia u otro trastorno convulsivo, enfermedad hepática, enfermedad de Parkinson, un recuento bajo de glóbulos blancos, glaucoma, problemas para orinar, enfermedad cardíaca, cáncer de mama, próstata agrandada (hiperplasia prostática benigna). Este medicamento puede causar mareos, somnolencia o visión borrosa. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Evite el consumo de las bebidas alcohólicas. El alcohol puede aumentar el riesgo de hipotensión. Evite levantarse muy rápido de la posición de sentado o echado, ya que puede sentirse mareado. Evite sobrecalentarse o deshidratarse.
Contraindicaciones
Usted no debe tomar Loxitane si usted es alérgico a ella, la loxapina, o cualquier otro ingrediente inactivo de la droga, o si tiene alerta disminuido causado por tomar ciertas medicinas o tomar alcohol. Dígale a su médico si está embarazada o amamantando.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Obtenga ayuda médica de emergencia si usted tiene somnolencia, mareos, estreñimiento, boca seca, aumento de peso, visión borrosa, espasmos musculares, ritmo cardíaco acelerado, dificultad para orinar, depresión, problemas para dormir (insomnio), hinchazón del pecho, debilidad inusual, náuseas, vómitos, cambios de peso, fiebre, orinar menos de lo habitual, escalofríos, dolor del cuerpo, cambios en la visión, temblor, dificultad para respirar, hinchazón de la cara, labios, lengua, urticaria, cambios en su ciclo menstrual. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, consulte a su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: broncodilatadores (tiotropio, ipratropio), escopolamina, el glicopirrolato, la atropina, el dimenhidrinato, la belladona, methscopolamine, benztropina, medicamentos mepenzolato, urinario (tolterodina, flavoxato, oxibutinina), diciclomina, propantelina, músculo relajantes, hiosciamina, antihistamínicos (cetirizina, difenhidramina), analgésicos narcóticos (codeína). La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico screca de todos los medicamentos, de venta libre, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que está tomando.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son somnolencia, mareos, rigidez muscular, aumento de la salivación, dificultad para tragar, debilidad, pérdida de equilibrio o coordinación, pulso débil, latido cardiaco lento, respiración débil o no profunda, desmayo, convulsiones.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 59-77 grados F (15-25 grados C) lejos de la luz, el calor y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
