Skelaxin (Metaxalone)
Informations générales
Skelaxin est un relaxant musculaire. Il agit en bloquant l'influx nerveux (ou sensation de douleur) dans le cerveau. Il est utilisé avec le repos et la physiothérapie pour diminuer la douleur et les spasmes musculaires associés aux claquages, aux entorses ou aux autres blessures musculaires.
Posologie
Prenez Skelaxin conformément aux prescriptions de votre médecin. La dose initiale recommandée pour les adultes et les enfants d'âge de 12 ans et plus est de 800 mg, prise trois ou quatre fois par jour. Il peut être pris avec de la nourriture ou immédiatement après les repas pour prévenir les maux d'estomac.
Précautions
Avant de prendre Skelaxin vous devriez aviser votre médecin si vous avez une maladie du foie, une insuffisance hépatique, la cirrhose, l’hépatite, des maladies rénales, l'insuffisance rénale, l'anémie, des allergies. Ce médicament peut vous rendre somnolent ou étourdi. Ne conduisez pas de véhicule ou n’effectuez pas d’activité qui exige de la vigilance. Limitez la consommation des boissons alcoolisées. L'alcool peut augmenter certains des effets secondaires. Levez-vous lentement d'une position assise ou couchée. Les personnes âgées peuvent être plus sensibles à ses effets secondaires.
Contre-indications
Vous ne devriez pas prendre Skelaxin si vous y êtes allergique ou allergique au metaxalone, ou à l'un des composants inactifs de ce médicament, ou si vous avez une maladie grave des reins ou du foie, l'anémie. Avisez votre médecin si vous êtes enceinte ou allaitez.
Effets secondaires possibles
Obtenez de l'aide médicale d'urgence si vous avez des nausées, des douleurs abdominales, des vomissements, une perte d'appétit, la somnolence, des vertiges, une fièvre, des urines foncées, la jaunisse (jaunissement de la peau ou des yeux), des maux de tête, des éruptions cutanées, des démangeaisons, un gonflement du visage, des lèvres, de la langue, de l'urticaire, une difficulté à respirer, un rythme cardiaque rapide. Si vous remarquez d'autres effets non énumérés ci-dessus, consultez votre médecin.
Interaction des médicaments
Informez votre médecin de tous les autres médicaments que vous utilisez, notamment: les barbituriques (butalbital, phénobarbital, pentobarbital, amobarbital), les benzodiazépines (diazépam, clobazam, triazolam, lorazépam, midazolam), des narcotiques (méthadone, lévométhadyl, morphine). L'interaction entre deux médicaments ne signifie pas toujours que vous devez cesser de prendre l'un d'eux. Informez votre médecin ou le prescripteur de tous les médicaments sur ordonnance, en vente libre et des herbes médicinales que vous prenez.
Omission de dose
Prenez la dose oubliée dès que possible. Sautez-la s'il est temps pour votre prochaine dose. Ne prenez pas de doses supplémentaires pour compenser la dose oubliée.
Surdosage
Si vous pensez que vous avez une surdose du médicament, cherchez de l’aide médicale d'urgence immédiatement. Les symptômes de surdosage sont la somnolence, la respiration lente ou superficielle, une perte de conscience.
Conservation
Conservez le médicament à la température ambiante entre 59-86 degrés F (15-30 degrés C) à l’abri de la lumière et de l'humidité. Ne conservez pas les médicaments dans la salle de bain. Conservez tous les médicaments hors de portée des enfants et des animaux domestiques.
