Benemid (Probenecid)
Información general
Benemid pertenece a una clase de medicamentos conocidos como uricosúricos. Reduce los niveles altos de ácido úrico en el cuerpo, ayudando a los riñones a eliminar el ácido úrico. Benemid a veces se usa junto con los antibióticos penicilina para aumentar los niveles de antibióticos en la sangre. Probenecid funciona al disminuir la capacidad del riñón para eliminar el antibiótico del cuerpo.
Instrucciones
Tome Benemid exactamente según lo prescrito por su médico. Para prevenir la gota, tome este medicamento por vía oral, generalmente dos veces al día con alimentos o antiácidos para reducir el malestar estomacal. La dosis usual para la hiperuricemia es de 500 mg dos veces al día y la dosis máxima es de 2 gramos al día. Cuando se combina con antibióticos tipo penicilina para tratar las infecciones, la dosis habitual es de 500 mg 4 veces al día. Se recomienda beber un vaso lleno de agua con cada dosis y por lo menos ocho otros vasos de agua al día mientras toma este medicamento con el fin de prevenir los cálculos renales.
Precauciones
Antes de tomar Benemid usted debe hablar con su médico si usted tiene enfermedad del riñón, úlcera de estómago, cálculos renales, el tratamiento del cáncer, deficiencia de una enzima determinada, la enfermedad de úlcera péptica. Este medicamento puede causar mareos. No conduzca o realice tareas que requieren vigilancia. Limite el consumo de las bebidas alcohólicas.
Contraindicaciones
No utilice Benemid si usted es alérgico a probenecid, está embarazada o amamantando, o si usted tiene cálculos renales de ácido úrico, ataque de gota o de trastorno de las células sanguíneas (anemia, disminución de glóbulos blancos). No se recomienda en niños menores de 2 años de edad.
Los posibles efectos secundarios
Busque atención médica de emergencia si usted tiene urticaria, orina de color oscuro, el empeoramiento de los síntomas de la gota, la piel amarillenta, dolor agudo en el costado o espalda baja, hinchazón, sangre en la orina, confusión, debilidad, dificultad para respirar. Efectos secundarios de menor gravedad pueden incluir: erupciones en la piel, orinar más de lo normal, náuseas, vómitos, prurito, pérdida de apetito, dolor de cabeza, mareos, pérdida del cabello, enrojecimiento. Si usted nota otros efectos no mencionados anteriormente, consulte a su médico.
Interacciones con otros medicamentos
Dígale a su médico acerca de todas las medicinas que usted use, especialmente: medicamentos anti-inflamatorios no esteroideos (naproxeno, ketoprofeno, la indometacina, meclofenamato), rifampicina, lorazepam, metotrexato, medicamentos para la diabetes, los salicilatos (aspirina), sulfamidas, diuréticos (furosemida). La interacción entre los dos medicamentos no siempre significa que usted debe dejar de tomar uno de ellos. Dígale a su médico sobre todos los medicamentos, de venta libre-, y los medicamentos a base de hierbas que está tomando.
Dosis olvidada
Tome la dosis que se ha olvidado tan pronto como sea posible. No tome la dosis olvidada si es la hora para su próxima dosis. No tome más medicina para alcanzar la dosis pasada.
Sobredosis
Si usted piensa que tiene una sobredosis de la medicina debe buscar ayuda médica de inmediato. Los síntomas de sobredosis son la pérdida de la conciencia, náuseas, convulsiones, vómitos, malestar estomacal.
Almacenamiento
Guarde el medicamento a temperatura ambiente entre 68-77 grados F (20-25 grados C) lejos de la luz y la humedad. No guarde los medicamentos en el cuarto de baño. Mantenga todos los medicamentos fuera del alcance de los niños y las mascotas.
