Ortho Tri-Cyclen (éthinylestradiol et norgestimate) contient une combinaison d'hormones féminines qui empêchent l'ovulation (libération d'un ovule par l'ovaire). Ortho Tri-Cyclen provoque également des changements dans votre glaire cervicale et la muqueuse utérine, ce qui rend difficile pour les spermatozoïdes d'atteindre l'utérus et plus difficile pour un oeuf fécondé de joindre à l'utérus. Il est utilisé comme contraception pour empêcher la grossesse. Il est également utilisé pour traiter l'acné sévère.
Posologie
Prenez Ortho Tri-Cyclen exactement comme prescrit par votre médecin. Utilisez votre première pilule le premier jour de votre période ou le premier dimanche après votre période commence. Prenez une pilule chaque jour à la même heure. Certains paquets des contraceptifs pour 28 jours contiennent sept pilules de rappel pour maintenir votre cycle régulier. Votre période commencera habituellement lorsque vous utilisez des pilules de rappel.
Précautions
Ortho Tri-Cyclen peut nuire à un bébé à naître ou provoquer des malformations congénitales. N’utilisez pas de contraceptifs oraux si vous êtes enceinte ou si vous avez récemment accouché. Vous ne devriez pas prendre Ortho Tri-Cyclen si vous avez une maladie coronarienne, de graves troubles valvulaires cardiaques, l’hypertension artérielle, un antécédent d'AVC ou d'un caillot de sang, des problèmes de circulation, le cancer hormono-dépendant tel que le cancer du sein ou de l'utérus, des saignements vaginaux inhabituels, une maladie du foie, des migraines ou un antécédent de l'acrimonie provoquée par la grossesse ou par des comprimés de contrôle des naissances. Ne fumez pas pendant l'utilisation d’Ortho Tri-Cyclen, surtout si vous avez plus de 35 ans.
Contre-indications
Vous ne devriez pas prendre Ortho Tri-Cyclen si vous avez une maladie coronarienne, l'hypertension artérielle, des problèmes de circulation, un cancer hormono-dépendant, une maladie du foie ou le cancer du foie, des migraines, des antécédents de jaunisse dû à la grossesse ou aux comprimés de contrôle des naissances, des maladies cardiaques, les triglycérides, la maladie de la vésicule biliaire ou des saignements vaginaux inhabituels, si vous êtes enceinte ou si vous êtes sensible aux allergies.
Effets secondaires possibles

Interaction des médicaments
Les antibiotiques et les anticonvulsivants peuvent rendre Ortho Tri-Cyclen moins efficace, ce qui peut entraîner une grossesse. Le médicament peut interagir avec henylbutazone, les médicaments contre les saisies, le topiramate, la carbamazépine, l'oxcarbazépine, les barbituriques, le sécobarbital, l’amobarbital, le phénobarbital ou des médicaments contre le VIH. Informez votre médecin de tous les médicaments que vous utilisez.
Omission de dose
Surdosage
Cherchez de l'aide médicale d'urgence si vous pensez que vous avez utilisé trop de médicament ou buvez un verre de lait. Les symptômes du surdosage peuvent inclure le dégoût, des nausées ou un écoulement vaginal de sang.
Conservation
